Our 100% raw, organic Kamut is packed with zinc, niacin, magnesium, copper, and phosphorus for brain and circulation health and also delivers. Plus, whole grains like Kamut not only help lower LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease, they deliver fiber, protein, and a range of antioxidants. Kamut flour provides carotenoids, which fight cancer and eye disease, and phenols, compounds that help prevent cancer and promote healthy aging.
Kamut’s buttery, sweet flavor and giant grains (they’re twice the size of modern wheat!) make it a wonderful addition to salads, pilafs, soups, and stews. Try adding it to breads and veggie burgers for extra texture and nutrition, or enjoy it all on its own as a fluffy side dish or smooth breakfast porridge.
Kamut is a type of wheat and therefore not gluten-free. But since it’s an ancient type, it hasn’t been altered by modern industrial cultivation, and some people with wheat sensitivities find that Kamut is safe for them to eat!
FUN FACT! As modern commercial wheat was altered to increase yields, it lost flavor, and whole-wheat products took on a slightly bitter taste that manufacturers had to cover up with extra sugar. Kamut, on the other hand, was discovered in an Egyptian tomb in 1949 and hasn’t been tinkered with since ancient times, so it doesn’t have that bitterness-- it’s known as the “sweet wheat.”
Shelf life: One year if properly stored
Storage: Cool, dry, dark area. Kamut can be refrigerated or frozen to extend freshness.
