Ingredients: Organic Raw Styrian Pumpkin Seeds

If you've never tried raw, organic Styrian pumpkin seeds, you’re in for a treat! This Austrian pumpkin cultivar is filled with seeds that are nutty, crunchy, and uniquely rich in flavor and nutrients. Try them in salads, sauces, breads, crackers, veggie burgers, energy bars, or simply as a healthy on-the-go snack!

Why are Styrian pumpkin seeds darker than other pumpkin seeds? They contain a wide variety of antioxidants, like alkalizing chlorophyll, eye-protecting lutein and zeaxanthin (about as much per serving as kale!), and hormone-balancing lignans. They’re also bred to be a better source of both the alpha- and gamma-tocopherol forms of vitamin E, already found in small quantities in other pumpkin seeds. Plus, they have something you won’t find in other pumpkin seeds at all: an antioxidant that may help treat incontinence and other prostate and bladder issues. Austrian folk remedies have long relied on these seeds, but we’d need more studies to know for sure.

But we do know that Styrian pumpkin seeds have all the great nutrition you’ll find in regular pumpkin seeds. They’re ideal for vegetarians and vegans: just a quarter-cup has 9 grams of protein, 16% of your daily value of zinc, and 15% of your daily value of iron. They’re also high in essential minerals like manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper. Plus, they’re a good source of omega-9 fatty acid, which reduces the risk of diabetes by increasing insulin sensitivity and lowering “bad” (HDL) cholesterol levels.

FUN FACT! There’s no need to shell Styrian pumpkin seeds. They don’t even have a shell, just a thin, silvery membrane that protects the precious seed inside.
